Mycoban Calcium Propionate was the first calcium propionate introduced to the world. It was created by DuPont in the 1920’s, sold to Pfizer Corporation in the 1940’s and Federated Mills acquired Mycoban in 1982. Mycoban is still made to the original specifications. The specifications for Mycoban were adopted by the Food Chemical Codex (FCC) and the Merck Index as the standard for calcium propionate. Mycoban set the standard and is still the standard today. Today, 80 years later the specifications for calcium propionate set in the Food Chemical Codex (FCC) are still the same.
